HOUSING
Housing is for full time staff.
Staff housing is available but not required. It includes utilities, kitchen and laundry privileges. Employees are responsible for their own linens and food. Rooms are shared during the busy season. (Example bedroom above) You won't need a car on Nantucket, but you should consider a bike. Unless you are staying for the off season months. Then a car is a good idea.
1. Housing
Because of the difficult seasonal housing situation on Nantucket, Fog Island Café participates in the ownership and management of residential living space, and subsidizes the costs involved. Costs of maintaining employee housing are determined by various factors, including property ownership and rental expenses, maintenance and repair expenses and utility costs. Because the number of employees requiring housing fluctuates with the seasons, employees may be required to relocate as necessary to maintain a high level of occupancy. Management shall assign room space, and employees understand that they are renting only that room space, and that the remaining space within the unit will be rented. No room changes may be made without the approval of the management. Sorry, but pets are not allowed.
2. Security
A security deposit of $145 is required of all occupants and must be paid in advance, prior to moving in. Management reserves the right to require additional security at any time.
3.Rates for Residency
Current rates for residency are $145/week for employees. This rate is based on two people per room ($290.00 per room). Rates may be higher for non-employee occupants. Rates may be changed at any time. The first week and security deposit (total $290) are due in advance, prior to moving in, then each week there after. Collection times are on Friday afternoons from 4-6 pm. A "Wage Deduction Policy" will need your signature upon moving in for those who have money deducted from their check automatically.
4. Utilities
Management will pay all bills for electricity, water, gas, sewer, and trash removal, if those bills are deemed reasonable. At any time, if usage becomes unreasonable, an increase in rent may be necessary. Management will not provide telephone service but will provide cable TV. If you have a cell phone, we encourage you to bring one. Recycling is a responsibility of all people living on Nantucket. Please follow the guidelines of Nantucket and keep the house organized and clean.
5. Uses and Maintenance
Occupants shall not make use of the premises in any unlawful, hazardous, improper, noisy or offensive way. Nor commit or permit any to exist therein, nor create any substantial interference with the rights, comfort, safety or peaceful enjoyment of other occupants. You must agree to maintain premises in good condition. Housing will be reviewed on a weekly basis. If it is necessary to call in a professional cleaning service, all costs will be evenly apportioned to the occupants of the house.
6. Policies
No smoking at all is allowed in the building.
No more than four guests are allowed on the premises at any time.
No guests are allowed on the premises after midnight.
No open, unattached food, food containers or garbage inside or outside.
No dirty dishes left anywhere in the house. (Clean up after use please)
No music or noise that is at a level audible from the street or the closest house.
Knowledge of any of these violations must be reported to management. Failure to support housing policy, or to comply with the rules and guide lines contained herein may be grounds for immediate eviction, and dismissal from employment.
Violations of the following policies are also grounds for eviction from the housing and immediate dismissal from employment.
No illegal drugs, controlled substances or associated paraphernalia.
No overnight guests.
No physical property damage
No stealing or theft of any kind.
By submitting this application, I agree to support housing policies and to comply with the rules and guidelines contained herein.

FYI -- Things to Consider
Local services are limited in Nantucket, which is 20 miles offshore from Cape Cod. Therefore, applicants should have a strong desire to enjoy and discover the Island. Fog Island's social emphasis centers on outdoor recreation. Since employee living areas and facilities are near quiet neighborhoods, applicants should have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor off-duty as well as on-duty. Residents clean and maintain their living area as part of the room and board arrangement. Applicants must have willingness to work with household neighbors in maintaining safe and clean housing areas. Applicants should expect a busy work environment with extensive customer contact. Those who want to gain experience in the hospitality industry, use professional skills, enjoy the Island and meet a diverse group of people will thrive in this environment. We hope you consider the lifestyle available here before applying.
Feel free to drop a note to Human Resources if you have not heard from us. We hire all year long and will accept and consider applications throughout that time period. If you have friends interested in applying, please mention their names. Everyone in our housing has a roommate.
